OUR MISSION

Gateway Music is more than a music school.  It is a music education hub that provides quality music training programs that will effectively develop the musical talent of students in a stimulating, friendly and enriching hub environment.   By adopting a hub concept, Gateway Music will give students the support and opportunity based on their individual needs to enable them to strive to realise their full musical potential. A broader objective of the hub approach is to provide students with a meaningful and enjoyable musical training experience and that they will internalize their long-lasting love for music and enjoyment in playing the instruments. This is highly beneficial to them in their academic and career pursuits as it has been widely acknowledged that learning and playing a musical instrument will enhance the person’s creativity and cognitive & problem-solving skills. Hence our motto is “Music is forever”.

Courses

 

The Gateway Band and Orchestral Music Academy is the training arm of Gateway Music. It offers courses in musical instruments that you will find in bands and orchestras. These include the piano, brass (trumpet, trombone, bass, horn, etc), strings (violins, violas, cellos, etc), woodwind (flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, etc) and percussion (drums etc).  Besides instrumental music courses, the Academy also conducts courses in vocal training (see below).

The Academy offers courses for individuals or groups and for different age groups, from children to senior, and at all levels, from beginner to advanced. These courses are taught by the highly-qualified Gateway Professional artistes who have a passion to teach music. Lesson plans are tailored to meet the needs of individual students.  From time to time, the Academy will also organize group/ensemble classes as well as host special masterclasses and workshops conducted by invited artistes to provide further enrichment opportunity to those students who aspire to perform at the professional level.

Strong Support for Students’ Learning

Music lessons are conducted in our conducive, state-of-the-art, sound-proofed classrooms, each equipped with video/audio recording facilities for teachers to review the session with their students and discuss the areas that may need further practice. The students can later refer to the recording when they practise at home. This will enhance their learning process.

We realize that, quite often, students’ progress may be hampered by the lack of opportunities to practice outside the lesson hours. This could be due to a variety of reasons, such as when a beginner student does not yet have his own instrument while still deciding on what instrument he or she would really be interested to learn.  On this aspect, Gateway Music has made a special arrangement with Global Music Mart to provide free loan of instruments to students (subject to availability and on a first-come-first-served basis). Its presence in the premises of the Academy provides convenience for students who need assistance in matters related to music instruments and accessories.   Global Music Mart also offers a wide range of brand new as well as affordable and quality pre-owned instruments that will suit individual needs of students.

As for students who do not have a convenient place to practise their instruments, they may use the Gateway Classroom Studios at a special student concessionary rate instead of the public rate for such rentals.

Gateway Musical Kids (GMK) Program

The Gateway Musical Kids (GMK) Program is designed to offer the best strategic methodologies to introduce music appreciation and training to young children.  It is a dedicated program to give young children, aged 3 to 7 years, a strong foundation in musical skills, and strive to help them to develop the perfect pitch from young. Teachers for this program are specially selected based not only on their musical abilities but also their enthusiasm and commitment in teaching young children. The children will enjoy the fun-filled lessons conducted in the delightful Gateway Kids’ showcase studio. On completion of this program, the children will have learnt real music skills and gone through the introductory practical lessons with hands-on playing on the 4 main instrumental groups: piano, winds(recorder), strings(violin) and Percussion (drum).  In the process of learning music skills, the children will also benefit immensely from the program’s activities and teaching materials that will stimulate their creativity, build up their self-control, self-esteem and cooperation with other children in group participation, and develop their language, communication, fine & gross motor skills as well as critical listening skills.

The Gateway Recording Suite

This cosy, hi-tech recording suite is set up to cater to professional recording.  Installed with specialized equipment and supported by dedicated recording engineers, this suite serves to meet the needs of professionals to have high quality recordings of their performance pieces. In order that such quality recording can be made more accessible to professional artistes, affordable prices will be charged. Furthermore, students who wish to have their performance recorded in the recording suite will be given special student concessionary rate.

Our Other Services – Artistes for Your Events

We are also pleased to mention that Gateway Music is the host for the renowned TPT Ensemble. In collaboration with the TPT Ensemble, we have established The Trumpet Studio, Singapore’s first full-scale trumpet centre that is a one-stop hub for all things trumpet.  There is also a strong collaborative network amongst the Gateway Professional Musicians as well as with renowned guest musicians to get together for performances. Gateway Music undertakes commissioned work for corporate organisations as well as individuals to provide Music Artistes and Ensembles for their special occasions and events.
