Gateway Tuba Faculty: Teng Siang Hong

 

A highly in-demand and versatile performer, Teng Siang Hong frequently performs with various music groups ranging from orchestras to wind bands and brass ensembles while performing different genres of music, ranging from contemporary to classical and film music.
Besides performing, Siang Hong regularly coaches the tuba sections of various primary, secondary and tertiary schools, such as Catholic High School (Primary), Jurong Secondary School, Anglo Chinese High School (Independent), Victoria Junior College and Singapore Polytechnic.
In 2008, Siang Hong started his formal music education in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with a Diploma in Music Performance. During the summer of 2016, he attended the prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado, USA. Most recently, he graduated with Distinction with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Tuba Performance from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore.
His main tuba teachers were Hidehiro Fujita, Principal Tuba of Singapore Symphony Orchestra; Brett Stemple, Former Principal Tuba of Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Warren Deck, Former Principal Tuba of New York Philharmonic.
An avid and sought-after tubist, Siang Hong often freelances with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra.
