Gateway Saxophone Faculty: Joseph Chong


Joseph Chong is a professional Singaporean saxophonist cum band director. As a student of the NAFA-RCM collaborative degree program, He graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Saxophone Performance from the Royal College of Music.

Joseph started playing the saxophone at the age of 10. He embarked on his musical journey as a bandsman of the Maha Bodhi School Concert Band under the baton of Mr Quek Boon Hui. Since then, his passion for music led him to pursue music as a career. As a performer, he has performed with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Wind Band and Orchestral, Orchestral of the Music Makers and also the Orchestral Collective. He remains an active member of the school Alumni Band where both the wind band and the saxophone quartet have been engaged on a regular basis to perform in the public.

At present, Joseph is the Band Director of Pei Hwa and Manjusri Secondary School. He also serves as a saxophone tutor in various schools such as Broadrick Secondary, Bukit Panjang Government High School and Bendemeer Primary School. In addition, he coaches a wide range of private students, preparing them for everything ranging from ABRSM graded exams to playing their favourite pop songs.
