Gateway Clarinet Faculty: Doreen Yeo
Born in Singapore, Doreen Yeo completed her Bachelor (Honors) in Clarinet Performance from the Royal College of Music, London (2016) under the mentorship of Mr. Tang Xiao Ping, Assistant Principal Bass Clarinet – Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Mrs. Janet Hilton, Clarinet Artist. In 2014, Doreen graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore: Diploma in Music, Clarinet and in 2008, she was the youngest Conductor to graduate from the National Institute of Education/Nanyang Technological University with the Specialist Diploma in Band Directing.
As an active musician and music educator, Doreen is honoured to have the opportunities to play with orchestra like the Singapore Lyric Opera for their opera works: E.g. Turandot, Aida and SLO Gala Concert ; The Philharmonic Orchestra and The Orchestra of the Music Makers, assuming the role of both the Principal Clarinetist and section member. She was the Principal Clarinetist with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Orchestra to perform the widely known repertoire of Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev. During her studies in Royal College of Music, London, Doreen participated in the Royal College of Music Film Orchestra in the tribute concert to Alan Rickman and also joining the Royal College of Music Wind Orchestra performing under Ben Gernon, renowned British Conductor. Doreen have been glad to work under distinguished conductors like Lan Shui – Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Christopher Adey in Brahms Violin Concerto with distinguished artist Amaury Coeytaux and also with British conductor, Ben Gernon.
Believing in sharing the passion and knowledge of music through different resources, Doreen is currently the Band Conductor for school bands leading them for performances, concerts and competitions like the Singapore Youth Festivals. During her available period she conducts lesson in music schools, music programmes and tutor as a private Clarinet instructor. Doreen is a certified P.A.L. (Program for Active Learning) instructor with the Ministry of Education, Singapore and has been conducting P.A.L. modular classes in government schools. In Master classes, Doreen have learnt from Irvin Venys, Janet Hilton, Colin Lawson, Stephen Fox and many other renowned Clarinet teachers over the world.
As a soloist, Doreen explore and performed works that includes Aaron Copland – Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra; Sir Charles Villiers Stanford – Sonata for Clarinet and Pianoforte, Op. 129 and premiering work like German composer Phillip Lojak – Energetic Lines für Klarinette (Singapore 2016).
Currently, Doreen is the Music Director of D’Músico.
