Gateway Percussion Faculty: Yap Ting Wei

Yap Ting Wei is a musician, composer and an educator based in Singapore. He began pursuing a career in music at the age of 18 and graduated with First Class Honours in the BA (Hons) Music in Jazz Performance programme from LASALLE College of The Arts in 2018. Ting Wei also had the privilege to be mentored by Lewis Nash, Chok Kerong and Soh Wen Ming.
As one of Singapore’s most sought-after drummers, he has done many performances on both local and international platforms. He has performed at the Thailand International Jazz Festival, Thailand Smiles Jazz Festival, Lion City Youth Festival, Xihu Blooms Festival, among other international events. Performing at a high level beyond his years, Ting Wei has worked with numerous prolific and renowned artists such as the likes of Benny Golson, Randy Brecker, Jeremy Monteiro, Joanna Dong, Kerong Chok, Alemay Fernandez, and The Steve Mcqueens.
An experienced educator, Ting Wei has taught countless students, with ages ranging from 2 to 50 years old. With a passion for teaching, he continues to inspire his students with his love for music.
