Gateway Voice Faculty: Cherie Tse

Cherie Tse is a Singaporean Soprano who has studied with voice teachers such as Lim Shieh Yih, Dr. Jessica Chen, Nicholas Sears, Vladimir Chernov and Olga Toporkova. She has won 1st prize in the NAFA Vocal Competition 2017, 2nd prize in the 7th Tan Ngiang Kaw/Tan Ngiang Ann Vocal Competition in 2013, the Gold Award in the 5th Bangkok Opera Singing Competition in 2013, and was also a finalist in the SLO-ASEAN Vocal Competition 2018 (professional category).
Cherie graduated from NAFA with a distinction in Diploma in Music, and completed her Bachelor degree from the Royal College of Music, London. She has attained a first-class grade for her graduation recital in May 2017.
As a soloist, Cherie has sung with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (2016), Singapore Lyric Opera (2017-2018), Ding Yi Music Company (2017), Mus’Art Wind Orchestra (2013), West Winds (2018), Chamber Sounds (2014), NAFA New Music Ensemble (2013), Singapore Pocket Opera Theatre (2017), Hallelujah Oratorio Society (2015), Music For People (2018) and Philharmonic Winds (2014). Cherie sang the role of the High Priestess in Singapore Lyric Opera’s 2018 production of Verdi’s Aida. She also premiered in Dr Zechariah Goh’s Songs of the Dragon Kiln with Ding Yi Music Company as the soprano soloist in December 2017. Her operatic performances include playing “Girl” in the world debut of Singaporean composer Chen Zhang Yi’s chamber opera, Window Shopping, in 2014. She also played the “Sandman” and “Dew-fairy” in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel in 2015, as well as the role of “Chloé” from Offenbach’s Daphnis et Chloé in a 2016 production.
Cherie made her international debut in Austria, and has performed in the UK, Malaysia and Taiwan. She sang in “Legacy”, a CD recording with NAFA’s School of Music and the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts (ISEAA). Cherie is currently an Artist-trainee of the SLO-Leow Siak Fah Artist Training Programme since 2017.
